May the best team win

I'm not the only one questioning whether the best team won the IPL it seems....

It's interesting to read Mark Bright's preview of the Champions League final tonight. "Luck is as important as skill in football" he says. "What we hope is the ref gets the big calls right."

I'd hate to see cricket go that way. Skill needs to be the deciding factor 99% of the time.

And you know my views on using technology to ensure that a wrong umpiring decision doesn't have an undue influence on the game.....

Broken record? Absolutely....!

I am old enough to remember Geoff Boycott saying when he was playing that cricket is 20% ability and 80%in the head. I wonder if this is still deemed to be the case now that the game is so much more "scientific"!

At grass roots level (or possibly lower) I can remember having periods when I scored runs and others when I did not without ever being able to fathom out why. Yes, before anybody says it times when I was less bad than others.

So I am not convinced that skill is necessarily the most important factor these days; perhaps it is sports psychology?? In my case probably pints of Youngs bitter came into the equation but I cannot for the life of me remember whether it helped or hindered...
