A fair deal for Colly

Couldn't agree more with this post about Collingwood on King Cricket - I needn't say any more....

I'm glad you agree with King Cricket's headline - "Paul Collingwood has to go".

OK - so King Cricket are getting a vibe that lots of people think Colly should be axed. That vibe is absolutely right. He's not talented enough (as King Cricket put it, "He's crap", and after such a long run in the team, he's just not up to the job of stepping up to number 3 so that younger players can feed in lower down.

Undoubtedly there's been the odd good performance along the way, but rarely more than one or two per series, even at the best of times, and certainly not enough given the opportunities he's had.

He's past it, he was never good enough to be consistently successful at the highest level, he's a roadblock to future success, and he should be axed forthwith!

The past it thing is clearly not true - he's only 33 and one of the most athletic fielders we have.

So that just leaves the quality thing. I just think people should be evaluated on performance - not whether they look good. If there are 3 or 4 English middle order batsmen that are better than Collingwood then they should come in ahead of him, but there aren't.

Pietersen is a shoe in and Trott has earnt a run in South Africa. But there is no way that Bell should be picked ahead of Collingwood just yet. Sadly for England, there's not many other real challengers, but should one emerge then fair play.

I trust that in the interests of consistency, you'd also drop Mike Hussey from the Aussie side?
