Strange behaviour

Apparently when you bat you're supposed to make mental notes of the abilities of the fielders around you as part of the planning process for a long innings ( I say apparently, for obvious reasons).
Well a batsman we met last week took this aspect of his game very seriously - I think he might have been traumatised by a run out in his early career - he called out the information as he went from end to end. So we'd hear 'left handed throw' or 'underarm throw' as he went. Curious and surely an opportunity to fox him with a couple of misfields.

You must have seen John Walter try to fox people with his left handed throwing. After 2 or 3 he'll come in quickly and throw properly left handed....I've never seen it work, but I gather it has once. Considering he tries it all the time and has played for 30 years it's not a great success rate!

That of course was meant to say "throw properly RIGHT handed"!

And I suspect that it's more than 30 years too.

I can remember Geoff Warren doing something similar about 30ish years ago and running somebody out by about 10 yards when he removed the middle stump from cover. The batsman was less than amused.

Interesting this cannot be outside the Spirit of Cricket unless the action is blatant.
