The search for perfection
Summer arrived this morning - my Amazon-supplied copy of Wisden. Might be difficult to get a lot of work done today.
Nice to see their search for complete accuracy is unabated. This year's edition contains an erratum for the 1976 edition and corrects two errata from last years edition - it seems that 'the corrections for 1975 and 2002 should have been for 1976 and 2001 respectively'.
Now setting aside remarks about anoraks and how many quiz marks were lost as a consequence I wonder whether, if people as careful as this had been bankers, we'd be in the current pickle.

What is the criteria they use to select the 5 Wisden Cricketers of the Year? There's only one that I think really deserves to be named based on what I have assumed (!) the criteria are, and that's Claire Taylor.
My assumed criteria is the most influential players in world and county cricket. Is that right?
I believe that traditionally it's the 5 players who have had the biggest influence on the English season who haven't already won it.

There is a separate award, instigated only a few years ago, for the best player in the world right now.

Yes, according to The Times:
"The five are picked by the editor, and the selection is based, primarily but not exclusively, on the players’ influence on the previous English season. No one can be chosen more than once."
I've now reminded myself about the English summer....and the fact that no-one can be chosen more than once must limit the editors choice somewhat! The 3 Saffers all have a case, but I'm not sure about Jimmy Anderson, tremendous trier though he was last summer and still is.
Thoughts on alternatives anyone?
Having thought about this for a few days, the only people I can come with are Ravi Bopara or Napier from Essex as they helped the side win 2 one day titles. Surely more than Jimmy Anderson did...
