Bowlers having a field day

Well it doesn't look like they'll be many draws around in the last set of County matches....only Essex and Middlesex of the sides batting first in either division are making a decent fist of it at present (Strauss must be gutted that he's found form just as the season is ending) - you can see the round up here. Just two sides chose to bat first - one was Essex and the other was Derbyshire who were promptly bowled out for 194.

As predicted, it's rained a fair bit in Hove, but it looks like they'll still get a decent amount of play in and Sussex have taken the early advantage with Yorkshire 56 for 3 currently.

One bowler doing well, with the bat, is Rashid for Yorkshire. Wainwright isn't doing badly either and we still have the might of Hoggie to come in.

What a difference a day makes! Not only did Hoggard bat well - he then came out and took 2 wickets, and Rashid one. Come on Sussex - you're too good to go down (what a cliche!). If they do go down I'll feel sorry for them as the weather has robbed them of a couple of victory opportunities this season....

Amazing days cricket - from the brink to a strong position. At least Surrey didn't lose !

That could be said of anyone. Yorkshire were top at 1 July and have also been robbed by the weather (Lancs game for one). No such thing as "too good" to go down. If you don't get enough points, you aren't good enough. Unless there is a conspiracy againt you...........

I have a very good compromise so both Yorkshire and the "too good" Sussex stay up, lets somehow contrive all the results so Lancashire go down. They are the wrong side of the pennines and hence deserve to be relegated.

Yorkshire and Sussex stay up....best result for the Yorkshiremen commenting here, and for Sussex! But I still feel sorry for Kent who were challenging for the title only recently....

Kent too good to go down? Which team, other than Surrey, wasn't too good to go down?

I do feel a bit sorry for Kent, though, as they have now been relegated on top of being ommitted from the Champions Trophy because of their ICL players.

I think the problem is that weather has impacted so many matches that whoever went down with Surrey was going to feel that luck was against them. We'll see if Kent were too good to go down next year.

The key game was the Kent/Lancs game - until then I had Lancs as the favourites to go down and for my money they were the second worst team...although I realise that seems a little strange as they were eventually 5th out of 9.

I would actually agree with that, and not just because I am a Yorkshireman (just in case anyone hadn't guessed). Lancashire got very lucky, with the weather saving them several times in August.
