Net run rates
Well done to Sussex on winning the Pro 40 competition in what sound like a real nail- biting 'final'. I was receiving texts in Florence from a gloating pal in the ground.
What I fould interesting is that Sussex's net run rate was -0.106, worse than four of the other teams in the division (i.e. on net run rate they were exactly mid-table). So the question is why is this complicated statistic used to settle positions when teams are level on points?

I have to admit to not knowing what is used first to separate teams on the same number of points, but if it is net run rate I think that's wrong. I'd hate to watch a side batting second who have given up trying to win the game attempting to get a few extra runs to up their net run rate rather than going all out to win.
The results between the 2 sides with the same points would be a far better indicator of which team is better surely? However, I can see a role for net run rate if various other things have come out level after being considered first.
