England's Stanford 20:20 Squad

Tomorrow, the selectors announce their winter squads with quite a few eyes on the Stanford 20:20 squad.

Here's my XI with 2 extras to make up the squad (in batting order, though depending on the situation, there would be a degree of flexibility!)

Wright
Prior
Pietersen
Shah
Flintoff
Collingwood
Mascarenhas
Patel
Swann
Broad
Anderson

Bopara
Harmison

Do you agree?

Of your starting line up, I don't think they'll pick Mascarenas now that Flintoff is back. They like him as a boundary hitter but don't trust his bowling.

Personally, I'd put Bopara in the team instead of Mascarenas and have him open with Wright, leaving Prior to bat below Patel at 8.

I'd then have Sidebottom in the squad rather than Mascarenas and you could make an argument for any 2 of the 4 pace bowlers - Sidebottom, Broad, Anderson and Harmison - depending on the wicket (I have assumed a slowish wicket favouring spinners in agreeing with your selection of 2 spinners).

The person we both agree should miss out is Bell - I feel sorry for him but they're going to have to disappoint someone. I think we might find that Bell makes it when they announce the team and that one of Bopara, Sidebottom and Wright misses out - Cricinfo suggest Sidebottom.

I see they've gone with 15. Seems a little weird to include Cook but there you go - it seems to be because there is a (relatively!) small amount to be shared around the non-playing squad members so by including him, he gets a share....if England win!!

I just don't understand it! Cook of all people!

If they were going to pick 15 for 3 matches, then they might as well have included Mascherenas - who is more likely to score more sixes?!
