Australian's fight for place and lick wounds

The latest round of the Sheffield Shield has the Aussie slectors watching all matches in an attempt to conjeur up the best possible squad for the trip to South Africa - you can read who's in the mix here.

Of course, this follows the last ball loss in the ODI to New Zealand this weekend - something which the Aussies are ashamed of, according to the NZ press, and that loss coming despite having cheated according to Daniel Vettori. And there's some interesting Cricinfo statistical analaysis pointing to why the Aussies lost 4-1 in the ODIs to South Africa.

OK, so England also don't have a dominant spin bowler to bowl in the middle overs, but the current situation in Australia makes England's look a little better following the captaincy debacle!

I watched the game yesterday and I too thought Haddin looked pretty sheepish at the dismissal. I also thought that although close, it was Haddin's gloves and not the ball that dislodged the bails.

The great thing is that the Aussies lost (again)! They are often accused of less than sportsmanlike behaviour but usually manage to shrug it off as the oppo being sore losers. Ponting then had the nerve afterwards to claim decisions hadn't got the Aussies way.

For me all this goes to show is that the Aussies have slipped back a peg or two in ability and don't know what to do about it, but rather than accepting, are in denial. Before, they had the players to get out of any situation, so puffed out their chests and made their opponents roll over. Now, however, they are still puffing them out and wondering why they aren't winning.

Whilst I think the Aussies are good enough to beat England still, they won't if they don't start to accept responsibility for what is happening.

Typical whingeing Aussies. Roll on the summer.

Don't like the look of Botha's elbow in the picture with the statistical analysis

....or his left foot. He's as open chested as a javelin thrower. I've never seen him bowl but I don't see how he can in that position.

I thought the same when I saw the photo of Botha! But he has been cleared to bowl by the ICC....
