Freak dismissal

Ed Joyce may rightly feel aggrieved by his recent county championship dismissal batting for Sussex against Warwickshire. He hit an aggressive sweep against off the bowling of Ant Botha, only to see the ball lodge in the pocket of Jonathan Trott at short leg as he tried to jump out of the way of the shot. Talk about having the batsman in your pocket!

I'm waiting to pick this one up with Grov as our resident umpire....I thought that if the ball lodged in your clothing it was considered dead and therefore not out....obviously not!

I also thought that - but apparently Law 32 says a fielder has fairly completed a catch "if the ball accidentally lodges in his clothing".

I seem to remember it happened to Trescothick a few years ago against Sri Lanka, Russel Arnold (?) was fielding at short leg and it caught in the flap of his shirt as he took evasive action too.

Yes I remember that one - Russel Arnold, taking a Tresco slog-sweep in his unfeasibly baggy shirt as he tried to jump out of the way.
