Hurrah !
Fantastic win for Middlesex.
But maybe a problem - one of the points made by the withdrawn petition showing lack of confidence in the Middlesex committee was the strange choice of 'Crusaders' as the name for the limited overs side. It was suggested , just as it was when George Bush was talking about a 'crusade against terrorism' , that the word was historically inappropriate. Now if the cup-winners trophy (whatever it's called ) takes place in Dubai or Abu Dhabi it looks even more inappropriate.
Meanwhile Angus Fraser was recently arguing for a competition aimed at the 'asian' community in places like Southall to attract new players for the county as the West Indian community was represented by Daniel, Cowans, Butcher , Slack etc. all those years ago - seems sense to me.

Why would anyone worry about a name? Yes, some will like and some won't but aren't there more important things to worry about? The name isn't meant to mean anything except that it can get plastered on shirts and merchandise and make money for them.
If they want to follow a standard marketing route to gain more interest they can (a) ask their members to vote on the club website for their name, or (b) change the name for a bit and then return to the old name (as consumers rarely take up the new name used) amid a load of PR to talk up the product/brand. Either has associated costs which means that Middlesex would be better off concentrating on bigger issues though....
Completely agree with the Gus Fraser thought....has that really not been tried before?
No what I was concerned about was naming a cricket team due to play in the Middle East after an army sent to attack Islamic rulers close to that part of the world.
I think people are worrying too much. It's the name of a cricket team - it's not meant to be taken literally (obviously!). Political correctness gone mad....
Perhaps they should change the first two syllables of their county name to ensure that no-one on the extremities is offended, and the last syllable so that they don't risk a potential increase in teenage pregnancies!
